Mike Zito and the folks at Gulf Coast Records have produced a fine blues rock album that leans way more to the rock side than blues with this all-star ensemble of musicians. The sound is exceptional, the musicianship is outstanding and the songs are first rate...it’s really some good, kick-ass rocking blues!

What do the Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Rolling Stones and Wilson Pickett have in common? They more or less sound like the Proven Ones if you mix them altogether. Singer Brian Templeton brings a soulful swagger to the mic. A seasoned pro who has spent years honing his vocal chops. Their new record "You Ain't Done" is a gritty throwback to the bluesier elements of classic rock radio.

Proper musical swagger is hard to master. Too much and it’s boastful. Too little and it’s invisible. But when a band gets it just right, it makes the listener feel like they’re at the world’s greatest party and there’s no other place in the world they should be at that particular moment. The Proven Ones‘ You Ain’t Done is perfect blues and classic rock swagger.

You likely recognize these names...It’s the merging of Boston blues talent with West Coasters. Collectively they are a well-decorated group of veterans, either as bandleaders or sidemen...This one is certainly equally as wild, maybe even a bit more potent.

THE ROCK DOCTOR

Rock & roll has super groups, so does the blues. The Proven Ones ...{have] won dozens of awards, been on hundreds of recordings and logged thousands of miles on the road. All that work, all that mojo culminates on You Ain’t Done, their sophomore release; a muscular blues, rock ‘n’ soul workout that has to be heard and felt to be believed. Street date is April 17th.

The latest from a modern blues rock super group of white boys that are way more hippie San Francisco than English recyclers, they've done it for others on hundreds of recordings but here they are letting all that pent up stuff come flying out as they do it for themselves. Hard hitting throughout, this was made to get your blood flowing. Hot stuff.

The venerable group of musicians gathered together to form the group known as The Proven Ones create a musical statement for both 2018 and the ages with their CD entitled Wild Again. In doing so, they pay tribute to the celebrated history of The Blues, while maintaining an innovative and modern stance. This band plays the blues without compromise, diving into the project and packing a terrific punch on both sturdy originals and well-chosen covers.

That’s Proven Ones in the sense of proven track record – drummer Jimi Bott and guitarist Kid Ramos are both former Fabulous Thunderbirds, and other band members have a host of awards and other credits to their name. And on this 10-track outing, half and half originals and covers, they live up to their credentials big time.

The joint is jumping with rocking blues...Templeton has a street savvy grit to his voice, and works it well as he growls to the B3 on foot stomping honky-tonks like the dramatic “Cheap Thrills”...Things get really interesting on the 10 minute opus “Loan Me A Dime” that has Ramos delivering some tasty string work that weaves through the Hammond, letting the whole team stretch out like Salt Water Taffy. These guys sizzle like grilled onions.

With each person having already distinguished himself as an individual performer, sideman, or member of such accomplished blues bands as The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Ronnie Earl & the Broadcasters, The Mannish Boys, and Sugar Ray & the Bluetones, it should come as no surprise that the new soul-blues-rock supergroup The Proven Ones can make some great music together. But what may surprise you is just how great the music on the band’s debut album Wild Again (Roseleaf Records) is, with the recording quickly becoming one of our favorites of 2018.
